<P>=UARTER 12 FEBRUARY 2013 Q-RACING JOURNAL AQHA HAS TAKEN ACTION REGARDING THREE TRAINERS AS A result of the decisions of the Louisiana Racing Commission and the Remington Park Board of Stewards based on horses testing positive for Class 1 and Class 2 drugs. The three trainers are Joseph R. Hebert, Alejandro J. Sanchez-Munoz and Roberto Sanchez-Munoz. Effective January 11, AQHA has suspended the AQHA memberships issued to the above trainers pending final out- come of their cases with the Louisiana or Oklahoma racing com- missions. Furthermore, horses that start a race on or after January 20, 2013, that the above trainers are listed as an owner or trainer shall be ineligible to receive AQHA racing points or AQHA honors/awards, including AQHA year-end champion or AQHA regional high-point recognition. Also, horses that the above trainers are listed as an owner or trainer shall be ineligible to enter any AQHA Challenge regional, bonus or maiden races. These trainers join 11 other trainers suspended in October 2012 for reasons related to medication violations. AQHAs action stems from the penalties issued by the Louisiana Racing Commission on Joseph R. Hebert, which included a three-year suspension, beginning December 2, 2012, for Class 2 medication violations. The suspension issued by the Louisiana Racing Commission included a denial of access to all racetracks, off-track wagering facilities and recognized training tracks under the jurisdiction of the Louisiana Racing Commission. Oklahoma Racing Commission penalties were served on Alejandro J. Sanchez-Munoz and Roberto Sanchez-Munoz. The Remington Park Board of Stewards issued 20 orders related to Alejandro J. Sanchez-Munozs and Roberto Sanchez- Munozs cases (10 for Alejandro and 10 for Roberto). Such cases involved 10 dermorphin (Class 1) medication posi- tives. The orders referred the cases to the Oklahoma Racing Commission and contained recommendations for a suspen- sion greater than one year and a fine greater than $2,500 in each of the 20 cases. These trainers have certain appeal rights governed by the respective racing jurisdictions. AQHA will continue to monitor the cases and has taken its action pending the final outcome of the cases. CHAMPION PROSPECT TO THE TOP HAS EARNED HIS AQHA Supreme Race Horse title. The 2011 champion 3-year-old colt returned to racing in 2012 and in five starts won three races, including the Zia Park Championship (G1) and The Championship at Sunland Park (G1). With his December 30 win in the latter, he earned the prestigious title. His race record is 10 wins, five seconds and two thirds in 22 career starts and earnings of $924,150. The award recognizes a racing American Quarter Horse who during his or her career earns $500,000 or more, wins two or more open Grade 1 stakes races and at least 10 races. Prospect To The Top becomes the 31st to earn the award since it was created in 2002, and the 102nd horse to earn this award in total. (The remaining horses were given the award retroactively in 2002.) Prospect To The Top is owned by Joel Tavarez of Odessa, Texas. The 4-year-old stallion by Coronas Prospect out of the Easily Smashed mare Cream To The Top was bred by Sue May of Fort Stockton, Texas. Prospect To The Top was named the sports 2012 champion aged stallion. Prospect To The Top will stand his second sea- son at stud at JEH Stallion Station-Texas. AQHA SUSPENDS THREE TRAINERS PROSPECT TO THE TOP EARNS SUPREME IDAHO HORSEMAN DUAYNE DIDERICKSEN IS MOVING INTO A management position at Les Bois Park to help promote the track at Boise, Idaho. Les Bois is operated by Treasure Valley Racing, comprising five local businesspeople who in 2011 reopened the 40-year- old track for live racing after a three-year absence. The owners are really good people, and theyre looking for someone to help get this thing on the right track, so weve offered to help them, Didericksen said. A former jockey, trainer and racing secretary at Les Bois and other tracks, Didericksen will be helping with all aspects of the operation, from live racing and simulcasting to legislation and working with local entities. Were lucky to have them involved in horse racing, Didericksen said of the owners. Theyre all for the horsemen, and theyre not really concerned with profit – they just want to break even and pour it back into the business. Theyre very prominent people in the industry, and they just want to create jobs and save a good industry. The group has already done improvement work to the facil- ity, which was evidenced in average daily attendance of 4,000, and they work to encourage the breeding industry in the area. Of course, Im a little prejudiced toward Les Bois, said Didericksen, who owned and managed the track from 1994 until it was sold in 2002. But its a great little facility, and with these folks owning it, there will be a lot of capital improvements done, which is good for the horsemen as well as the general public. Theyll make sure the racetrack surface is safe for both horse and jockey. The Turf Club facility at Les Bois Park is open year-round and offers a full-service restaurant/bar and simulcast wagering with live video feeds from tracks nationwide. Hours of opera- tion are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday, with Turf Club table and group party reservations available. For more information, visit www.lesboispark.com or call (208) 258-2177.
