The workshop included his presentation to graduate students about academic careers in economics and ?nance. Smiths paper, Issues in Extractive Resource Taxation: A Review of Research Methods and Models, was accepted by Resources Policy, a scholarly journal. K. Shelette Stewart, associate director of business development for executive education, discussed her book Revelations in Business in January on the talk show Marcus & Joni, which is broadcast globally on the Daystar Television Network. Tom Fangyun Tan, assistant professor of information technology and operations management, had his paper The Implications of Worker Behavior for Staf?ng Decisions: Empirical Evidence and Best Practices accepted for publication in August 2014 by Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, a peer-reviewed academic journal that covers the ?eld of hospitality management issues. Don Vandewalle, associate professor and Management and Organizations Department chair, has been reappointed for a third term to the editorial board of the Journal of Applied Psychology, the premier journal for publishing organizational behavior research. Zannie Giraud Voss, chair and professor of arts management and arts entrepreneurship in the Meadows and Cox schools, serves as director of the National Center for Arts Research (NCAR), a collaboration between the Meadows and Cox schools. In November, Voss presented a preview of NCARs inaugural report exploring the health of arts and cultural organizations in the United States for representatives of area arts and cultural organizations in Dallas. A roundtable presentation that included NCAR Research Director Glenn Voss, the Marilyn R. and Leo F. Corrigan, Jr. Endowed Professor of Marketing at Cox, and Bill Dillon, Herman W. Lay Professor of Marketing and Cox senior associate dean, was also held for arts and cultural organization guests in New York. Kumar Venkataraman, Fabacher Endowed Professor of Alternative Asset Management and Finance Department chair, co-wrote a paper titled Should Exchanges Impose Market Maker Obligations? It won the NASDAQ Best Paper Award in Market Microstructure at the 2013 Financial Management Association conference. He presented the paper at the 2013 European Finance Association meeting in Cambridge, England. Venkataraman also presented his co- authored paper titled Informed Trading Before Corporate Events at the 2013 European Finance Association and at Arizona State University. His co-author presented the paper at the 2013 Northern Finance Association meeting and the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. Gordon Walker, David B. Miller Professor of Business and Strategy and Entrepreneurship Department chair, presented his co-authored paper Ownership of the Firm and Product Innovation in Chinese Manufacturing, 1998- 2007, at a Strategic Management Society conference on Emerging Economies in Chandigarh, India, in December. Walker also presented Incumbent Status, Inter?rm Mobility and Entrant Growth at the Annual Meeting of the Strategic Management Society in Atlanta. Walker co-authored the paper with Bo Kyung Kim, SMU Cox assistant professor of strategy and entrepreneurship, and Tammy Madsen of Santa Clara University. Bernard Weinstein, associate director of the Maguire Energy Institute, adjunct professor of business economics and a Bush Fellow, co-wrote a booklet titled The Energy Logjam: Removing Regulatory Obstacles to Fuel the Economy: Vital Statistics on Americas Most Promising Sector. The booklet was presented at a conference on government regulation at the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas as part of The 4 Growth Project, an ongoing Bush Institute initiative. Weinstein gave the keynote presentation, Pursuing a Sensible Path to U.S. Energy and Economic Security, at the AIRA-CFA Energy Summit at the Belo Mansion in September. Additionally in September, Weinstein spoke about projected growth in the Dallas-Fort Worth population at Prestonwood Country Club and served as a panelist at the Jones Lang LaSalle Annual Economic Forecast. Weinstein addressed the topic Will Environmental Regulations Derail the Energy Boom and Restrain the Revival of Manufacturing? at the 22nd Annual Meeting of the Environmental Federation of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. He spoke to the Crowe Horwath audit ?rm and the Texas Society of CPAs in Dallas and San Antonio in November. In December, he spoke at the West Texas Energy Consortium in Big Spring about the potential for the United States to become the top oil- producing country in the world because of the Permians energy potential. Also in December, Weinstein addressed the future of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac at the Federalist Society Roundtable in Washington, D.C., and at Texas Bank and Trust in Longview, Texas.
