<P>7 cox.smu.edugo to PROGRAM NEWS EXECUTIVE EDUCATION SMU Cox and 10 Corporate Sponsors Launch the Latino Leadership Initiative The Latino Leadership Initiative will develop opportunities in four interlinked areas to create a unique, holistic approach: • Individual development for high-potential managers • Organizational development to build multicultural competence • Exclusive business insights through Latino-focused research • Industry leadership initiatives in schools and communities The LLI advisory board, composed of executives from each of the sponsor companies, is moving forward with the following initiatives: • Rising Leaders program: Development of a leadership curriculum for ?rst- and second- line corporate Latino leaders. • A business case for action: Creation of a business case/ white paper with unique data and information to help corporate leaders understand how development of high- performing Latino executives will drive business growth and create a sustainable competitive advantage for companies. Research ?ndings, data and best practices from founding sponsor companies will be a critical part of the study. • Leadership initiative in schools and the community: Engage Dallas-area Latino children/ parents/families in an activity that will provide an opportunity to interact with SMU and corporate sponsors, and encourage them to stay in school and pursue higher levels of education. Representative Rafael Anchía, Cox Associate Dean of Executive Education Frank Lloyd and the Honorable Antonio Garza On November 19, SMU Cox Executive Education hosted the launch of the Latino Leadership Initiative (LLI). The initiative is designed to help meet the nations growing need for corporate leaders as the economy improves and national demographics evolve. More than 200 guests attended the event at the Collins Center, including a large and diverse number of corporate, community and university leaders. The collaboration between SMU and 10 visionary founding sponsors — AT&T (lead sponsor), Wal-Mart (presenting sponsor), Baylor Health Care System, Cash America, EY, Kimberly-Clark, JCPenney, MoneyGram, Shell and State Farm, and two contributing sponsors, Comerica and Aramark — is the ?rst endeavor of its kind between an academic institution and corporate America. The LLI grew out of research showing that Latinos are underrepresented nationally on executive teams and boards and face slow upward mobility in most organizations. The initiative addresses the challenge of the talent management gap within U.S. businesses as they drive growth and capitalize on the opportunities inherent to the potential Latino talent pool and growing marketplace. Rapid economic and demographic changes occurring in the United States, a Latino population boom, has created the business imperative for this initiative. Rafael Anchía (BA ‘90) of the Texas House of Representatives (himself the son of immigrants from Mexico and Spain) and Antonio Garza (JD ‘83), former U.S. Ambassador to Mexico and SMU trustee, provided the keynote address. Anchía was hopeful that the LLI will provide the structure for mentorship and executive development that will help Latinos succeed in corporate America. He also stressed that Latinos need to be prepared. If so, then opportunities will ?nd us. When that happens, Garza challenged the many young Latino middle managers and small-business owners in attendance to share the gift. Cox Professor Mickey Quiñones, LLI academic director, leads a panel discussion at the LLI launch event.</p> <UL><LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/1/1/">Front-Cover</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/2/2/">Inside-Front-Cover</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/3/3/">Page-3</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/4/4/">Page-4</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/5/5/">Page-5</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/6/6/">Page-6</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/7/7/">Page-7</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/8/8/">Page-8</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/9/9/">Page-9</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/10/10/">Page-10</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/11/11/">Page-11</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/12/12/">Page-12</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/13/13/">Page-13</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/14/14/">Page-14</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/15/15/">Page-15</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/16/16/">Page-16</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/17/17/">Page-17</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/18/18/">Page-18</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/19/19/">Page-19</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/20/20/">Page-20</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/21/21/">Page-21</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/22/22/">Page-22</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/23/23/">Page-23</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/24/24/">Page-24</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/25/25/">Page-25</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/26/26/">Page-26</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/27/27/">Page-27</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/28/28/">Page-28</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/29/29/">Page-29</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/30/30/">Page-30</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/31/31/">Page-31</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/32/32/">Page-32</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/33/33/">Page-33</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/34/34/">Page-34</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/35/35/">Page-35</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/36/36/">Page-36</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/37/37/">Page-37</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/38/38/">Page-38</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/39/39/">Page-39</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/40/40/">Page-40</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/41/41/">Page-41</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/42/42/">Page-42</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/43/43/">Page-43</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/562/pveziwlbh/44/44/">Back-Cover</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publications/562/x/sitemap.xml" target="_blank">site map</a></LI> </UL>
