<P>26 MAY 2014 Q-RACING JOURNAL Trophy Dash WE HAVE WON EVERY DIVISION BUT the first, said Thomas, getting ready to hitch Ocean Runner and Spur N Dirty in the traces of the chariot. This is our first trip to the trophy dash in the first division. Sandberg acknowledged their challenge. The competition in the World is just incredible, said the driver. There are an awful lot of nice teams here, everybody is proud of each and every team, and you hate it for the ones that dont make it to the end. Every team does a lot of work – they live under these horses because its truly a marathon to run five times over two weekends. Its a marathon sport, its tough, its winter, the competition here is extremely good. Were honored to run with the people were in with today, we think very highly of each and every one of them, theyre every bit as good as us, and we hope were lucky enough to get there. It aint over yet. We just hope we can get out of the gate today and have the opportunity to scare somebody. Flying T, Cajun and Sandberg got it done. But it was close enough to put a little scare into Flying T, also, which won by a head over JRW. I thought I had it, Sandberg said of his first thoughts crossing the line. I told my daughter on the backside I was about 90 percent sure we got it, but I was not positive. It was a 2/100ths win, so there was a reason I wasnt sure, with the track the way it was and mud and dirt being thrown in the my face. I was confident but I wasnt positive. And despite the conditions, everybody got a clean shot and it was a very good race. My horses warmed up excellent, said Bruce Jenson, driving for JRW. They were out on the bit, they felt good and they were ready. They knew what we were there for. They stood really good (in the gate) – the sorrel horse come up to the front like normal and planted his feet. The right-hand horse, Shaker – sometimes hell give us a little fit, so we pulled his head out and pushed it back in, and then neither one of them moved. They opened (the gate), and I needed the sorrel horse to leave in Roy Ropelato and Donna Jenson. We get good horses and see where they mate. JRW drew the red gate in the middle for the trophy dash. On the outside was Owen Udys O-K Boys, hooked with Moonshine Boogie and Cachow. Bred by Jay Pitcher and Robert Gutke, Cachow is an 8-year-old bay gelding by Stylus. Cachow is one of nine winners from 12 starters out of the Real Easy Jet mare Smart Little Liz, who has produced the earners of $137,875, including Bitterroot Futurity (RG2) winner Little Brain Wave ($40,489, by Special Leader). Udy acquired Cachow in October 2010, seven months after the gelding ran at World in the second division. Udy ran him in the fourth division in 2011, and then hooked him with Moonshine Boogie in 2012. A winning earner of $10,292, Moonshine Boogie is a 7-year-old gray gelding by Cashin Man out of the winning Dash Ta Fame mare Fly Boogie Fly. We watched him run one time out at Elko (Nevada) and we knew he was fast, but he had problems, said Udys son Jason, referring to a race in which Moonshine Boogie went from the 4 post to the rail to finish second by a nose, only to be disqualified to fifth. I told Dad if we could get him on the chariot and line him out, we need to do it – that horse is fast. The Udys know of where they speak. O-K Boys is Owen and wife Linda Kay Udy, and the team now is driven by Josh Theurer (tire), a 21-year-old bio-veterinary science student at Utah State who started at age 10 driving teams of ponies and now was driving his grandfathers team in the first-division championship. Josh is the fourth generation of our family running chariots, and the third generation to run in the championship dash, said a proud Grandpa, who is retired from Thiokol. My dad started running chariots way back before there was the World, I ran in the championship dash in 2002 and my son Mike (M&Ms Racing) won the championship in 2011. But Josh has his work cut out for him today. The competition here – were up against two great teams. We just hope everybody gets a clean shot and we have a good race.
