<P>Scots Wah Hae! By Richard Mooney Scotland, home to the Highlands (or the Hielands as Scots say), has many sporting traditions. We created curling, golf, cycling (pedal-cycle), shinty, the hammer-throw, the shot-put throw and the worlds most popular sport, football. Though the latter is somewhat disputed, football in Scotland can be traced back to around 500 years, and irregardless of historical opinion, Scots were critical in making the beautiful game what it is today. Despite that absolutely awesome claim, Scotlands recent history with football has not been so glo- rious. We havent actually qualified for an international football tournament since 1998. Not for lack of trying, we came close in 2008 for the European tournament, going as far to beat the French one-nil in Paris. Good times. You see, were football daft. Absolutely crazy for the beautiful game. And thats reflected in the culture of our supporters who are renowned all over the world, they are the Tartan Army. Thats the official name of Scot- lands supporters. If Scotlands playing in your country, were gonna show up in the thousands and party and cheer and smile with all of you. Even if Scotlands not playing, well still be at the World Cup. We support the beautiful game. We love the atmosphere, the unity and common international language that is foot- ball. That said, the only team well (often jokingly) hope to see lose is England, or the Auld Enemy as the Tartan Army refers to them. Scot- land and England have been partners for years and havent been at war with each other for nearly five hundred years, but once we face each other on the pitch, things can and often do get heated. These matches are spectacles. England, as a team, though are far more advanced and more accomplished than Scot- land are. They famously won the World Cup in 1966 and this is something they often like to remind us, and well usually reply, Aye, you did indeed, but mind we were the first to beat you at Wembley the following year! Scotland famously hammered the English 3-2 at Wemb- ley and were the first team to beat them after they won the World Cup. But its all just friendly banter! In finishing, youll never meet fans so passion- ate about a team thats so poor, thats Scots for you. In football, as in life, we take what we can get and have a good old time doing so! </p> <UL><LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/1/1/">Front-Cover</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/2/2/">Inside-Front-Cover</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/3/3/">Page-3</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/4/4/">Page-4</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/5/5/">Page-5</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/6/6/">Page-6</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/7/7/">Page-7</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/8/8/">Page-8</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/9/9/">Page-9</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/10/10/">Page-10</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/11/11/">Page-11</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/12/12/">Page-12</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/13/13/">Page-13</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/14/14/">Page-14</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/15/15/">Page-15</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/16/16/">Page-16</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/17/17/">Page-17</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/18/18/">Page-18</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/19/19/">Page-19</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/20/20/">Page-20</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/21/21/">Page-21</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/22/22/">Page-22</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/23/23/">Page-23</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/24/24/">Page-24</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/25/25/">Page-25</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/26/26/">Page-26</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/27/27/">Page-27</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/28/28/">Page-28</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/29/29/">Page-29</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/30/30/">Page-30</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/31/31/">Page-31</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/32/32/">Page-32</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/33/33/">Page-33</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/34/34/">Page-34</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/35/35/">Page-35</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/36/36/">Page-36</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/37/37/">Page-37</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/38/38/">Page-38</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/39/39/">Page-39</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publication/760/dwufszmbx/40/40/">Back-Cover</a></LI> <LI><a href="http://www.mzines.net/publications/760/x/sitemap.xml" target="_blank">site map</a></LI> </UL>
